The definition of a shutdown defenseman, he is big (6'3", 230 pounds) with plenty of strength, hockey sense and an active stick. Sees a lot of time against the opposition’s top scorers, and usually does well in that role. Is not a great skater and does not generate a lot of offense, but he knows his limitations and works well within them. Makes life difficult for opposing forwards. Can sneak up into the play at times with his underrated puck skills.
